How do you stop stars surrounding a planet disappearing when you zoom in on the planet ?

If there is a planet on the screen and you have zoom in on it, the stars surrounding it disappear.

Switch off "Dynamic eye adaptation" from the "Sky and viewing options" window (click on the third from the top button in the left menu, or press F4) .
