Square Stars

Asked by Ed

Prior to version 10.5 my stars were round. Now with 10.5 my stars are square no matter how far out or in I zoom in. Not to mention the text on the slide outs as well as when you select an object are like in a foreign (out of this world) font! Can't read anything. Only thing readible is the large name of the actual object I selected, all the statistics is foreign.

I'm sure it has to do with my graphics card but where do I begin? Why would one version of Stellarium be fine but the new version not? Matter of fact, the past versions have all been fine. I'd really like your input as I'm frustrated right now to where I don't even want to use it...and I use it to educate my 5 year old daughter. Sucks looking at square stars!

I have:
Intel Pentium 4, 3GHz, 1GB RAM
XP Professional, SP3
ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series; Driver Ver: 6.14.10.6925
256MB Video Ram

Thanks

Here's an update. I went to Properties of the Display Adapters and selected Update Driver. It installed RADEON X600 256MB HyperMemory. Restarted the PC, now I have circular stars but the program stops and a window pops ups apologizing that it needs to close. So, I reopened, same response. Seems to be running slow now. Am I in the right direction? If the ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series wasn't working with the graphics side of things (but I could move around and do everything without it needing to close) and the one that it just installed but was working with the graphics/fonts but is reacting slow, sounds like there is a driver that I need that's right smack dab in the middle of those two.

How do I determine which one to download?

Thanks

Have you tried starting Stellarium from the "Stellarium (no OpenGL2)" shortcut in its Start menu folder? It's available in Stellarium 0.10.5.

You can also try the latest test version (stellarium-bzr4743) from here:
https://launchpad.net/stellarium/+download
Again, try both the normal shortcut and the "no OpenGL2" one.

Can you help with this problem?
