location window

Asked by felix g

Hi, I am confused. I have downloaded the stellarium and it's completely working fine and all.
I have put in my coordinates and local time, and have saved it in the location window.

BUT I have a problem though,
my screen shot or images doesn't show the actual sky images that I see on the sky from my location.
My problem is, the stellarium is a bit late.

Like for instance, Jupiter is already high up in the sky horizon but
in the stellarium, Jupiter is still too well beyond the horizon...

Can anybody help?
What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

when you run it click F6
a dialog will appear with the world map

@Hsn

Hi there, thanks.

Yes, I think the arrow completely points where I am located.
because I have already even created my own location coordinates and saved it in the stellarium window.
And have used it as my default so everytime stellarium opens, it's in my location.

However, I have been browsing the whole Q&A portion here and been trying to check on other similar circumstances till I've found one from Australia, that says something about the "PC WORLDTIME CONFIGURATION" So I've checked on my PC time and found out that it was "GMT -8 hours" instead of "GMT +8 hours" where I am supposed to be located.

So I've changed it to "GMT +8hrs" and then opened stellarium,
now it's still daytime here about 12:52PM so I could not check on the stars (actual sky images) and I won't until tonight.

But I kind of noticed about the sun location and the stars position (invisible stars since they show up in stellarium, but not in actual here since it's still daylight) give off the correct supposed position even the planets.
So I think a change has been effected in the stellarium after I've changed my PC TIME to "GMT +8hrs"

But I'll know for sure tonight, and will try to post the results. So that others may at least also have an idea, particularly for those experiencing the same. If something is still wrong then maybe you could all help me.

By the way, stellarium is really great!
I hope it continues to be great for many years so people may be able to benefit from it.

@Hsn

Well, thank you quite a lot.
say, you don't happen to be in China or Hongkong or Malaysia or Singapore?
I noticed you were the only one who answered so far, so others might be sleeping at this time, though not sure at all.
You don't happen to know cheap but good primary/secondary reflector mirrors? for dobsonian projects? Please let me know if you have any information.

Thanks again for your input.

I'll post my results tonight or tomorrow after I've checked on the night sky.

Hi!
Well I think I must have nailed it - with the PC TIME SETTING.
Just opened the stellarium and it does show the correct virtual view now against the actual sky views.
The PC TIME SETTING must have been the crux.

Hope this could also help others who are experiencing the same.

Thanks all.

To the stars and never come back!
