Adding star files to version 0.8.2 for Mac

I am on an older Mac (the iBook G3 Dual USB), it has the infamous graphics card glitch and I am forced to use version 0.8.2 (I used 0.10.2 on my clamshell). Where do I need to stick the star files, and what files do I need to edit (if any) to install the star files in version 0.8.2? I would prefer to have the star files available to all users from the same spot if possible, thanks.

I don't remember when the new catalogs were introduced... It might have been the 0.9.x series.
