words are missing letters

The names of stars and plants along with the text in the descriptions that appears at the upper left of the screen are missing letters. For exsample, the lable for Vega shows up as "eg"
When I select it the information in the upper-left hand corner is labled properly "Vega ( Lyr) - HIP 91262"
But the information below it is missing letters. Here are the firs two lines of what I see:

How do I get the full text to show up.

THis has nothing to do with my problem. I can not see the name of the star or the descriptions.
