using stellarium scripts as a screensaver

Asked by Nicholas Wharton

Is it possible to use Stellarium scripts as a screensaver for my Pc?
I'm using Windows Vista and Stellarium 0.10.5

I see there is a script called screensaver.ssc in Stellarium, but is it possible to run one of these scripts from the windows screensaver selection window and have the script start up as my selected screensaver in Windows?

Many Thanks
Nic

Hi Nic

The screensaver.ssc script is an infinitely looping script which might be used for a screensaver. However, at this time it is not clear to me how to build Stellarium as a screensaver program. For example, I don't know if it's Stellarium's responsibility to close when it gets keyboard/mouse events, or if the screensaver features if windows/osx/*nix does this. I expect it's different for different OSes.

On windows, I think I once head about a program which takes a .exe and can use it as a screensaver. In this case, if you could get the screensaver to launch stellarium with some command line options (i.e. --startup-script screensaver.ssc), that might work.
