Grid, constelation and equitorial lines missing

Asked by Ed

With 10.4, I am not able to see any line art - grids, constellation, equatorial etc. I'm running Vista on a laptop and I have the latest drivers for my video card. I do not have this problem with the 0.9 series version of Stellarium and I don't see this issue on a PC running XP. I saw a reference that someone else had this problem with 10.2, but there was no solution. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about addressing this issue?

Thanks

There are some known graphics problems with versions 10.3 and 10.4. You could try disabling the latest graphics routines by:
a/ Add the start-up option "--safe-mode", i.e. run
    "c:\Program Files\Stellarium\stellarium.exe" --safe-mode
OR
b/ Add "use_qpaintenginegl2 = false" (no quotes) to the 'main' section of the 'config.ini' file.

If that doesn't work, it would be best to provide details of your graphics card and the 'log.txt' file.

I should have added...
Disabling the OpenGL2 routines only works on later development versions of Stellarium, not the official 0.10.4. You can download a later version from https://launchpad.net/stellarium/+download.

I've tried all the potential solutions listed above with no success. I also played with my screen resolution but that did not help at all. My graphics driver is listed as "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family". Screen resolution is 1280x800. The log is below.

Upon further inspection, it looks like grid lines are there, but they are too faint/too thin to be visible. Is there a way to adjust the config.ini file with new line colors and especially thicknesses?

Thanks,
E

Ed,
The line colours are stored in the config file and could be adjusted to make them brighter. I don't believe the line weight can be changed via the config file.

Under Vista the config file should be at 'C:\Users\{USER_NAME}\Appdata\Roaming\Stellarium\config.ini'. As shown by your log file, this is 'C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium\config.ini' for you.

Be sure to close Stellarium before modifying the config file. And, as always, make a backup before making any changes (although you can always delete this file and Stellarium will revert to the defaults).

The settings you are looking for are in the '[color]' section. They are 'azimuthal_color', 'const_lines_color', etc. There are three values for each setting, corresponding to the intensity of red, green and blue, with a scale of 0.0 to 1.0 (0.0 is none of that colour, 1.0 is full intensity). Increasing the values will make them brighter and hopefully easier for you to see.

While in the config file, check that the screen resolution settings exactly match you actual screen res; find the '[video]' section and check the 'screen_h' and 'screen_v' settings.
