changing time and time zones

Asked by Kelly Beatty

two questions from a devoted Stellarium user:

(1) I know time zone can be changed in the .ini file, but I would like to be able to change to a different time zone (or to UT) while running. ideally, Stellarium should adopt the time zone of a selected location (e.g. Beijing). but if not, then this could be fixed partly by having a "local time offset" in Configuration that allowed the entry of +/- hours from the user's system clock.

(2) could there be a setting in the .ini file to permit switching between 24- and 12-hour clock time?

thanks!

clear skies,
Kelly Beatty

(1) You are not the first to ask for this. Unfortunately, there's a limited number of Stellarium developers and they have limited amount of free time. Adding this feature is not as simple as it seems, as it requires rewriting the way Stellarium handles time zones and locations.

(2) There is one - time_display_format. Acceptable values are:
system_default
24h
12h

Bogdan...

thanks for the quick reply. yes, I imagine that the coding for automatic time zones would be complex.

however, please consider adding a simple +/- offset from the user's system clock in the Navigation panel. this would make it easy to convert to UT, since many users surely know their UT offset. and finding offsets for various other places is easy too (using timeanddate.com, etc)

clear skies,
Kelly
