Uninstall the old version of Stellarium and remove the old user data directory. On WindowsXP, it should be something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Stellarium

Then download and install a test build of 0.10.5 from here:
https://launchpad.net/stellarium/+download

If this doesn't help, try downloading and installing the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Suggestion 1: "Uninstall the old version of ...", "Then download..." - done
The program will now start all the way up, yet it will not stay open for more than 2 seconds before saying that it encountered a problem and needs to close. I see your other suggestion, about getting the latest drivers for my graphic card. How do I do this?

I found the solution! It worked in my computer. There it is:

1. Download Stellarium v0.10.4 and install it
2. Download the patch of it in this link: http://www.ziddu.com/download/9672634/stel_patched.rar.html
3. Copy the files inside Stellarium folder.
4. Open your config.ini and add this line under [main]: use_qpaintenginegl2 = false
5. Start Stellarium to see if it worked. If yes, enjoy!
