p1 Cancri appears as a single star, while it's a binary system

Asked by perra.laika

Could this be checked?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/55_Cancri

Also, wouldn't it be AWESOME to be able to add the planets known to that system?

Thanks!

It is a double star - the components are about 40 arc-minutes apart. :) Search for "rho1 Cnc" and "rho2 Cnc".

As for the planets, try Celestia, they may have them:

Stellarium is supposed to simulate the sky, not the whole Universe. :)

Sorry, my bad. Rho1 Cnc is supposed to be the double one, isn't it? I'll have a look into it.

OK, I think I've found it:
http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-basic?Ident=rho+Cancri+B

As it is very faint, you need to download some of the additional star catalogs: up to and including "catalog 7 of 9" (stars_6_2v0_0.cat)

Zoom to "rho1 Cnc" first, then search for "LHS 2063". This will move the screen to the star, but won't select it, so you have to do it manually. It's displayed as a small blue star with an absolute magnitude of 14.90.

Can you help with this problem?
