No way to hide DSO images

Asked by AlexK

It's probably a lot of fun to have these cool DSO images all over the sky for newbies, but it's pain in the arse to hop between the real stars using the charts from the Stellarium in real life. The DSO images are too bright and big, and too easy to be confused with the star images. What makes the sky unrecognizable, especially in the dense regions (like Virgo). IMHO, it is crucial to have a command to hide these DSO images all together. Moreover, it looks like they are not very well aligned with the DSO symbols from the database anyway.

Fun fact... Actually, two fun facts:

There are at least two options to hide nebula images in the code, but both are disabled in the moment: one is a part of a window that allows the user to choose between sets of nebula images, the other is a simple option to toggle them on and off with a keyboard shortcut. The first one is disabled because that feature is not ready yet. The second one has no keyboard shortcut associated with it for some reason.

Also, it seems that an option to turn off nebula textures with a key in the configuration file existed before, but it no longer works, probably because it was replaced with the texture set selection window mentioned above.

You can try editing your textures.json file (it should be in Stellarium's installation directory, in "nebulae" somewhere). Just **back it up first** - for example, make a copy with a slightly different name. Open it in an ordinary text editor, and delete anything between the two square brackets after "subTiles" - the last line should look like:

"subTiles" : [ ]

After that, save the file, start Stellarium and report if you have any problems. :)

Can you help with this problem?
