sunrise/sunset times invalid for locations other than home location.

Asked by Bob Ollier

Same as first question above but with version 0.10.4. There is a default-config.ini file in C:/Programs/Stellarium/Data folder but changing sys time using UTC-2 or UT-2(for Egypt) makes no differance, even going into Control Panel and altering the system clock to a different location changes nothing. Sunrise in Egypt e.g. is at about 3pm, in the Uk about 4pm. There must be a simple answer to this rather irritating omission. Otherwise, this an excellent program.

Stellarium doesn't use the default_config.ini file directly - it copies it to the user data directory when it can't find Stellarium's configuration file or when the user resets the settings.

Stellarium's current configuration file (config.ini) is accessible accessible through a shortcut in Stellarium's Start menu folder.

Changing the system time zone won't have an effect on Stellarium if it's still running. :)

I`m sorry for opening an old question, but i can't make it work. For eg. when i start stellarium the default location is Paris, and even by default settings, it is wrong , sun rises at about 21h. How can i fix this? Is there a lower version available to download w/o this bug?

Do you have a problem setting the time zone in the configuration file? Make sure that your computer's time settings are correct (e.g. time zone, daylight saving time), and make sure you are using a value that Stellarium understands (typically in the format "UTC+X" or "UTC-X", where X is some value).

"For eg. when i start stellarium the default location is Paris, and even by default settings, it is wrong , sun rises at about 21h."

An explanation can be found in comment #1 to this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/stellarium/+bug/510480

"Is there a lower version available to download w/o this bug?"
You can try 0.9.1, but I don't think that the time zone code has been changed significantly since then.

Changing the Timezone in Windows, fixed the problem. Actually my time was right, manually set, but timezone was -8h utc, so this made problems to Stellarium. Even the time shown in stellarium was actual time in my timezone, until i changed it in windows, stellarium was showing wrong skychart.

Thank you Bogdan, your answer solved my question.
