cardinal points, some labels show up as mirror images

Asked by Sonja G.

After I installed Stellarium, I noticed that the cover logo and title page are backwards--mirror images?--and that seems to be carried through onto the sky dome. The cardinal points display backwards, as do most constellation labels. How can I fix this? Thanks!

Could you please provide some more information about your computer? Such as operating system and graphics card model.

This looks like an issue that occurred in some early, pre-release versions of Stellarium 0.10.3. Did you get Stellarium from its official site or from somewhere else?

Thanks for responding. To download Stellarium, I simply went to "Stellarium.org" and clicked "download"--I think it was from the official site. After that gave me backwards labels, I uninstalled it and went to our university's planetarium website where they provide a link to Stellarium. I tried that one and it did the same thing, so it probably is a problem with my computer. My computer is Windows XP, but I'm not sure of the graphics card; where should I find that? I appreciate the help.

A new version (0.10.4) has been released yesterday, could you please try it? Make sure to uninstall the old version before that.

If the new version doesn't help, open Stellarium's configuration file (config.ini, it should be accessible through a shortcut in Stellarium's Start menu folder), find "[main]" and add "use_glshaders = false" on a new line beneath it. Save the file, restart Stellarium and see if the problem has been solved.

You can find out your graphics card model with the System Information utility (Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information). In the tree to the left, expand "Components", click on "Display" and wait for it to load. Look at the "Name", "Adapter type" and "Adapter description" fields.

I tried the new version but the same thing happened. When I tried to add the "use_glshaders = false" it also did not change anything. When I checked on the graphics card I found this information:
                   Name-->ConfigMgr Remote Control Driver
                   Adapter type-->Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller, Microsoft compatible
                   Adapter description-->ConfigMgr Remote Control Driver
I hope this helps; thank you for your assistance.

Could you please try downloading and installing the newest driver for your graphics card? It's available on Intel's website:

When you are replying by e-mail, please delete the text of the original notification message, as it makes your comments hard to read when they are displayed at Launchpad.

Hi Sonia,

I've just had the same problem using version 0.10.4. I solved it by open the configuration window and click the tools tab. Then deselected the "Gravity labels" option.

Regards,

Eliot
