#1 would be nice to have, but it's not on my priority list. If it does get implemented, I would prefer it to be done in a protocol-agnostic way, so it could be done for all GIO-supported protocols that allow the filesystem concept (FTP, SMB, etc.) I haven't yet looked if GIO has an API for querying capabilities like "allow directory listing".

#2 is on my list. We'd need to provide an authentication dialog and mount the FTP server as a filesystem like Nautilus does.

Can you help with this problem?
