Can't get "last used option" working

Hi,
I would like to boot "last used OS" in "Default operating system",but when I select it and I reboot it doesn't work...It boots only the OS I had originally selected,and not the last I booted.The update automatically default boot option is on (i've tried also to deselect it but It doesnt' work either).I have Ubuntu Gutsy installed with Windows Xp on the other partion.Thank you very much for your help

I have to correct myself:I'm running Linuxmint and not Ubuntu...But Linuxmint it's only Ubuntu with Automatix!!! (I'm just joking,if you know Linuxmint you know what I mean :D :D :D).Linux Mint Daryna is completely based on Ubuntu Gutsy

That is strange. This is after you have just selected "last used OS" in sum?
Launch sum from the terminal with "sudo startupmanager"(yes sudo, not gksu in this case), try changing the settings and then paste any terminal output here.
Also you can try doing it manually and see if it works that way. Change the line "default 5" to "default saved" and see if it works then.

mmh,I've tried but it doesn't work!I think that my menu.lst lacks of something...I think that there should be some record as "last saved",but I can't find it!

So Jimmy, you don't think you can get this working? I am running Hardy Heron, but if I recall this hasn't ever worked, or at least with Gutsy. It MAY have with Fiesty, but I am not sure.

I guess I could add, I have used SuperGrub Disk, maybe it changed something?

Ah, now I noticed something.
Try to change this line:
# savedefault=false
to:
# savedefault=true

Then run 'sudo update-grub' and see if it works now.

There is the "save default" box ticked inthe StartupManager, but it still does not manipulate the grub.lst for me.
