Securing update download for private beta?

Hi,
I'm wondering the best approach for updates within a private beta stage.
Currently the update package can be downloaded by anyone with the URL stored within the appcast.
Could Sparkle present a user and password thus enabling a secure 'app' folder on server?

Sparkle doesn't support anything for this inherently. See https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/sparkle/+bug/228458 if you want to look into adding support for this.

No updates; no plans at present. There might be a patch from Jonas Witt a long time ago? Never heard back about that.
