For the 18% of PowerPc Mac owners, is there a way to flag or prevent Intel only apps from deleting apps that function?

I sometimes learn of "an update' to existing software and download it automatically, only to find it is not compatible with my PowerPC Mac. But the new update has deleted the existing software. Then I must locate the old version and download that one again. It should be simple to provide a setting that causes an alert page to remind us to check the (provided) new program description to learn if it were Intel only BEFORE installation. Automatic compatibility screening would be even better, but perhaps too much to ask.
