'E:Malformed line 56 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse), E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Asked by Gregaloch

I typed in the wine respository in "Software Sources."
Clicked OK, but was worrying about no wine GPG Key.
Everything went fine until I went there the next time to check. I got the following error:
'E:Malformed line 56 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse), E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Problem is I can't seem to get to "Software Sources" to fix it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Scott

I'm running HP Pavilion n6500, Intel(X4), 2Gb RAM, externals(USB&IEEE)

To open your sources list, from the command line, open a Terminal and issue the command: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

What does line 56 say? (You can make the line ineffective by putting at the beginning of the line: # . Save . Try again)

Thanks, Arochester!
I didn't think...The line was obviously mistyped by me!
It reported as a "bug."
Thanks mucho!
