Which Operating system are you running?

On Ubuntu you should try executing the following command in a terminal window:

sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad

What output do you receive?
Does that change the behaviour and the messages of soundconverter?

If you are not running Ubuntu, but a different OS, then you have to adapt the command in line with the package management system of your OS, and also the name of the package to be installed will probably be different.
