can't mount local network drive over smb

Asked by Brendan Carroll

I have .mp4 files on a local network drive. I launch SoundConverter, click Directories and click Other Locations. Then I enter the string "smb://192.168.1.1/data". The string turns to the color red and the "Connect" button is not active. The drive is mounted on my computer's file system.

Thanks,
Brendan

If the drive is already mounted on your computer's file system, then you should be able to re.use the already existing connection.
Is the external drive listed in (or below) the /mnt or /media directories?

When I click the button to add a directory to SoundConverter, the local
disk folders are listed, but not the shared drives. That is why I
attempt to add the share within the window.

Yes. The external drive is mounted on /mnt/data. The file system is
NTFS.

If you now try opening files in the directory /mnt/data inside soundconverter, does that work?

This seems like it could be a bug. I removed the version I installed
using the Ubuntu app store and installed it with "apt install" and the
functionality is better. I can see the share in the directory window
and I can type the name of the share in the "Connect to Server" window.
When I attemp to connect, I am taken to my Home directory. I still
can't connec to the server.

The version is:

If the share is already connected, then you should not try connecting again, but just use the directory /mnt/data/...

I do not fully understand your recent messages. Did you try adding images? that doesn't work, please see yourself on https://answers.launchpad.net/soundconverter/+question/703361
