Error Message when converting encrypted .wma to mp3

Asked by skclewis

When I try to convert my .wma files to .mp3, I get the following message. I am running Ubuntu 10.10.

Gstream Error
The stream is encrypted and decryption is not supported.

I searched the forums for similar issues and installed all the Gstream libraries recommended as well as followed the process to install Medibuntu. If I am missing something please advise.

Thank you.

Encrypted wma are purposely encrypted files so you can only play them with supported players.
Fluendo offers a non-free GStreamer plugin to play such files [1].

Well, after checking the fluendo documentation: playing DRM-encrypted files is NOT SUPPORTED on Linux.
So: You can't convert those files.
