Hi Annie,

That's a good question. The concept for the software store is to provide a single, unified one-stop-shop place for getting software of all sorts including both free and commercial. It will unify and replace several different existing tools that provide duplicate functionality including Synaptic, Software Sources, Gdebi, and (maybe) Update Manager. That is planned to be in place by next April. Eventually it will also provide the ability to get commercial software; currently, that function is tentatively planned for October 2010.

You can get a whole lot more detail about the software store at this link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareStore

Bryce's answer is correct, and this question is now also answered in one of the help pages for the Store. ("Why are all the programs free?")

Can you help with this problem?
