How do I specify a non screenshot.d.n screenshot in my package?

Asked by Tudor Holton on 2011-01-24

As a package maintainer of many GPL packages not in the Ubuntu repository, how do I include a reference to the screenshot of my app in my .deb packages or repository? screenshots.ubuntu.com and screenshots.debian.net are for packages in the Ubuntu repository only. Should I add something to the control file? If so, what?

Hi Tudor! Well, after your many, many bumps (and incredible patience), I think we finally have an answer for your question. Over the past year or so we have developed and expanded a new facility for bringing applications into Ubuntu that does not require the traditional approach of bringing them into the official repositories. This facility is available to you (and to everyone), now, and you can find all the information that you should need here:

  http://developer.ubuntu.com/

Note that, to answer your particular question, there is support for adding your own screenshots, as described on the "publish" page:

  http://developer.ubuntu.com/publish/

If I understand your goal correctly, I think this new facility should be exactly what you are looking for. Please read through the documentation and feel free to ask any questions here or simply contact me or any of the of the software-center developers. If we cannot help you directly, we can point you to people who can.

Thank you again for your patience and best regards,
Gary
