gdebi replacement functionality isn't complete

Asked by Mike_F

I just noticed that gdebi isn't included in 10.10 Maverick, yet software-center does Not seem to have a graphical way to install local .deb packages. What?

Is this feature hidden or not yet implemented? If the latter, please restore gdebi to the distro. I hope that saving the measly preinstall size of 56kB isn't an issue.

I believe that the Ubuntu Software Center is capable of installing local .deb files, like gdebi does, BUT, i haven't yet seen it in the menus/options within the program (you have to open the files from a file browser). I think that the absence of an "Open" menu entry should be filed as a bug, and linked to this question.

I have linked this question to a bug requesting more visability of Ubuntu Software Center's handling of local .deb files. (Bug #687266)

Can you help with this problem?
