Capability to run the application from it

Asked by Th3k3n

Hi!

The first thing I saw was the search field, where I typed "usb" and I promptly found the application I needed to run. I had no idea where to find the application in the menus, so I ran this application to see what would happen. But after finding "USB Startup Disk Creator" and clicking on the arrow, instead of running the application, the only option I had was to remove it, at that point I understood what this application is used for.

So, I wonder if it is possible to also run the application after finding it, and it could also say where it is on the menus (if I can remember later anyway...). In truth, in most cases I know what I want to run, but I usually have hard time browsing the menus (gnome), and I usually give up and try the command line terminal.

thx!

Hi Henry. Thanks for your question/suggestion! In fact, we agree that it would be very helpful to be able to reveal from inside software center exactly where a newly-installed app can be found in the menus, and so we have planned to add this feature during the Maverick (10.10) cycle.

You can find track the progress of this feature implementation in the following blueprint:

  https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-maverick-software-center-front-end

The specific development item is referred to as - "Where is it" feature to show the location of newly installed apps from inside Ubuntu Software Center.

Can you help with this problem?
