How do I confirm email for Steam?

Hello,

I am using Steam on Ubuntu 12.04

Under Settings, Steam says that my email address is not confirmed.
I have not received any confirmation emails from Steam.
Nor do I know how to get Steam to confirm my email address.

Also, I don't see any free games under Steam.

Please advise.
