network printing

Asked by Anurag Goel

Has anyone had success setting up a network printer using SoaS? At Gardner Pilot Academy we have 6 computers in a classroom that are connected locally via an 8-port hub. Any ideas on how I can get network printing to work? I believe the printer has an Ethernet port.

Hi, can you be a bit clear as to what kind of printing you vision?
Do you want to do a cmd line printing through sugar's terminal?

Or you do you want to use the print activity, which isn't quite stable yet?

Currently the only network printing that can be done is through Moodle
(when using the print activity).
I can guide you through the steps involved, if you would like.

USB printing works fine, too, Direct network printing from the Print activity hasn't
been tested yet.

You can install CUPS and it will just work. But there is no "print" button on any Sugar activity. You'd have to print from the terminal. iwikiwi is working on print extensions, but they are not integrated yet, as far as I know.

Do you have a working install of XS with you?

Yes we have a XS and Moodle for the GPA. Does Anurag need admin rights to the Moodle or shell access?

Can you help with this problem?
