Getting wireless connectivity

Asked by diego

Hi! I am a teacher from Uruguay and I'm getting used to sugar thanks to the sugar on a stick option. I would like to know if there is a way of getting the wireless device on my laptop (compaq presario v3415) to work and share activities with XO's and other pcs. Thanks in advance.
By the way. Is it possible to download more activities for sugar on a stick? How do I install them?

There is good chance that the wireless driver for the compaq presario is not in the Fedora base system upon which the Strawberry image of Sugar on a Stick was built. You can install the driver from the Terminal activity while you are connected to a wired network. (Exactly which driver you need, I don't know off the top of my head--most likely a Broadcom driver.)

If you set the Jabber server to the same one used on your XO, then you should be able to share. But note that Strawberry is based on Sugar 0.84 and it is likely that some activities will not share properly with the older versions running on the XO. There will be a new XO build based on Sugar 0.84 available soon, which will fix many compatibility problems.

Regarding downloading additional activities, please visit http://activities.sugarlabs.org from the Browse activity. There are many activities to choose from. To add them, just click on "download".

regards.
