How to add programs and edit program icons in slingshot

It worked for me too, following the link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UnityLaunchersAndDesktopFiles makes it much easier. However, I had to search for it quite a bit (using Slingshot in Luna). Should it be a documentation somewhere for Slingshot? cheers

You will need to create (or edit an existing) .desktop entry which will likely be in '/usr/share/applications'. The full specification for these files can be found at http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ , however the Ubuntu guide might be a bit easier to understand: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UnityLaunchersAndDesktopFiles.
