How to select lower default jpg quality

I'm looking for a way to decrease default jpg quality for scanned images saved by Simple Scan. jpg files created are big and much lower default jpg quality would do for nearly all my purposes (e-mailing & web).

with the gui it is not possible, see

if you compile from source you should be able to change the default value, however...

This is now fixed in 3.9.2
