Unable to find scanner from Kodak ESP 3250

Asked by Luis Alves Pereira

The Kodak ESP 3250 is a printer and scanner all in one. I am able to print via "system-config-printer 1.3.8" but Simple Scan will not pick up the scanner, there is no scanner on the preferences list (scanner source). I have done some research a while ago but confess was a bit overwhelmed (by the terminology and instructions) since I am still finding my way around the Linux 12.04 world, I would very much appreciate if someone has a solution to share. Many thanks

as far as i can tell from a little googling it seems difficult or impossible to get kodak devices work under linux:

I am sorry that I cannot provide a more helpful / positive answer.

Thanks Michael.

You did help since I hadn't yet seen some of the threads you published here, they put words on what I already thought about Kodak since one of their "the cheapest on the market" cartridges printed about 15 (if that many) pages of B&W and ran out; this whilst still running it in Windows a couple of months ago.
I'm not yet knowgeable enough to know whether it is possible to run a printer on Linux "forever" rather than buying a new one every three years because, either, they stopped writing drivers for it, it hit the wall of the manufacturer's programmed life span (purposeful mechanical failure built in the original design) or any of the many artifices they use to the same end, all under the commercial OS's umbrella, however, if it is possible that is one piece of code/software I would like to get my hands on.

I am glad I could help!

I personally used a HP LaserJet 4L for what might be "forever" on a computer hardware timescale.
I think this completely possible to buy quality hardware today, if you ignore most of the advertisement and marketing and check some reputable tests/comparisons.

I don't exactly understand what this software you are looking for is...

Best Regards
Michael
