Simple-scan in xubuntu 8.04 ?

Hello, I tried to install simple-scan on xubuntu 8.04 but the ppa installation fails (a file is missing).
I tried to compile but there is an issue with my c compiler (can't make executables).
I tried a .deb installation but there is an issue with a lib...

Thanks for any help.

no, newer releases of simple-scan are incompatible with older releases of ubuntu. this is because of constant changes to the toolchain, especially around vala. we lack the manpower to do backports.
