Can scan brightness be altered?

I am finding that my scans with an Epson perfection 1250 photo are quite dark. Is there any way of increasing the brightness?

well, you can change brightness after the fact, using any picture editing software you like, e.g. the gimp

Could that be added as a feature request for future? Tweaking the
brightness in multipage PDFs is not really practical,
