OSX 10.11: World of Warcraft: Capture Screen turns screen flat Grey --- not supported

Asked by Andrew P Tillinghast

I did a search and found this as an old Java issue but all the former reports seem to indicate it's a java 1.6 issue.

I am experiencing the same problem but only when certain apps are open. When I attempt a capture the Screen turns flat grey after 1 second or so and if I draw a capture box approximately where I think i need to capture the capture image is flat grey. (This is attempting to use the SikuliX scripting platform) in straight JAVA if I fire the drag to select region the same thing happens there.

To get capture images I've had to take screen shots and then close the game and do the captures off the screen shot.

OS X EL Capitan version 10.11.5
MBP Late 2013
Intel Iris Pro
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
SikuliX 1.1.1-SNAPSHOT updated via Maven Dependency

MBP OSX 10.11.5 using Java 1.7 (and Java 1.8)

It only happens with certain applications open. In the case of what I was experimenting with it was World of warcraft.

Running windowed with dual monitors. Both turn flat grey.

The overlay displays for a minute the way I would expect (Did some experimentation a year ago so know what to expect) then both screens go flat grey with the select text still visible.

Did a screenshot in WOW, opened in preview and was able to capture etc.

Is it only, if WOW has the focus or also, if you click somewhere else, without making the WOW window vanish, which steels focus from WOW?

When using the scripting tool I'm not giving wow focus so it's turning gray a second or so after hitting the wait() in the menu

--- using the scripting tool
... means you are talking about the IDE.
Are you sure you are running the latest version 1.1.1?

--- in your question you say:
SikuliX 1.1.1-SNAPSHOT updated via Maven Dependency
... which does not update the IDE.

--- it's turning gray a second or so after hitting the wait() in the menu
what happens, if you simply try to capture an image with the capture button?

With the IDE I'm using 1.1.0, in java I'm using the 1.1.1.snapshot as updated by maven

Symptom is the same in both, tried the IDE to see if it was a problem in my code.

Yes same thing happens with Take screenshot button and captured screenshot is a gray block.

I will not do anything, to get nearer to the cause for the problems:
- I tried to play it on my MacBook Pro OSX 10.11
- the game itself does not run in a Window, but blocks the whole screen (so actually not accessible by SikuliX)
- I did not get a chance to do anything after start, since my machine completely was blocked and I had to do a hard reset.

Generally I do not like this kind of stuff and especially WOW for me is simply hideous.

So I have to leave you alone with this "problem".
