openApp() for DMGs on Mac

Just a really basic question.
I am using openApp on windows to run an exe file to start our installer.
I want to do the same thing on mac, but nothing happens when provide the path to the .dmg in openApp.

Windows: openApp("C:\myApp.exe")
Mac: openApp("/users/path/myApp.dmg")
