[1.1.x] cannot read single character --- accepted as request for version 2 (related bug)

Asked by Marius

Hello,

I am currently using Sikuli 1.1.0 (a release from 20.10.2014) and I cannot read text form images when there is only one character.
E.g. if I have 0 in one image and I want to read this number, I get empty string.
I've looked on internet and found something related to tesseract: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9632044/tesseract-does-not-recognize-single-characters

There was a bug in the past but which should be fixed in tesseract version 3.02 (currently used by Sikuli). As I saw in the link mentioned above, it might be something related to setting Tesseract's page segmentation mode to "single character."

Does someone know how this can be solved or it is really a bug?

Thank you in advance,

Marius

Currently you do not have any chance to influence the behavior of SikuliX's OCR.
The new 3.0 feature "page segmentation mode" can simply not be used, since internally Tesseract is used with the 2.x feature set.

But thanks for the pointer.
I will revise the OCR feature completely during the next month with version 1.2 and I will make all Tesseract options available at the Region.text() level.

So sorry: no solution for now.

Hi Raiman,

Based on my SetupLog.txt file, I am using: Sikuli 1.0.1 12NOV2013120000
I am also having the same problem.
Are there any solutions for now?

Just looking to see if there's an update on this thread. I'm using Version 1.1.1 2017-03-29 and have been trying to read single characters and failing.
Are there still no solutions yet?

Thanks a lot, Ed
