A complete noob who isn't even sure how to download and use this

Firstly, to get it out of the way: I'm just an average teen who has absolutely no idea what is going on or how to use scripts but is trying to use one to look for class spot openings during college registration.

Now with that said, I can't even use the program. I'm not sure what's supposed to happen. I downloaded Java 7, downloded the sikulix-1.1.0.1.gem file, moved it to my documents and put it in a new file I created. When I try to open it, I get the "Windows can't open this file. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it." yada yada yada

What am I doing wrong? Do I... need to pick something to open it with?
I did go through the brief instructions but tbh I don't know much about this stuff (read: I am stupid) and I think I followed them (but seriously, what is a jar...........?)

Any help would be deeply appreciated and I apologize in advance.

--1. You need to understand, what it can be used for and then you need a case in your real life, where SikuliX's features could help you.

--2. The latest stable release is 1.0.1
... so you should start here http://www.sikulix.com/index.html
... and download the stable sikulixsetup.jar
... and put it in an empty folder
... and double click to start it
... and proceed according to what it tells you

as a noob, just select option 1 and after successful installation double-click runIDE.cmd to get started.

BE AWARE: if you plan to do more complex things, then you need some basic understanding about how to script with Python. There are excellent tutorials in the net, to get on the road.
