Will new version of Sikull use Jython 2.7beta 1 or not?

Asked by Parn Yin

Hi RaiMan, I remembered that you said we're going to have a new version of Sikuli at the end of 2013.
I am looking forward to it.
I would like to know these questions below early, then I can change my plan agilely.

(1) When will it be released? Around December?

(2) Will it has an Installed Wizard?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/sikuli/+bug/1225871

(3) Will it use Jython 2.7b1 or just Jython 2.5?
http://www.jython.org/
As you said, {}.format is not supported in Jython 2.5, so if the new version Sikuli does not support it, I need to adjust my codes now.

Thank you very much!

1) release date
I will try to finish some vital changes before christmas and then freeze this as version 1.1.0. (github master)
Then I will switch to develop version 1.2

2) the installer will be running without the need to go to the command line for that.

3) Since I do not know how stable Jython 2.7 really is, I am planning to have an option, to select between 2.5 and 2.7

Next week I will start with 1.1-Beta1 with weekly followups towards release, this will contain 2.7

yes, new version under development (1.1.0-Beta1) will have the Jython 2.7beta1.

I am a little ;-) behind with the new version, but the Beta1 will be available before end of February.

Thank you very much, RaiMan!
Don't worry and take it easy ! ^_^

From the home page of Sikuli I knew that it seems now Sikuli is maintained and further developed only by you, you are always busy.
I am just a beginner of programming so I feel sorry that I can't contribute on coding. But I am glad to help on other sides, e.g. Testing, Documentation, Translating to Chinese...

Oh yes, be assured, I do that ;-)

It is still true, that I am the driving one behind, but one of the reasons, why I am behind is the fact, that I am trying everything, to get the stuff more transparent and get rid of the native C++ stuff as much as possible, so to make it easier to contribute.
On Github you can see, that there are in fact contributions (version 1.1.0 e.g. will have native support for Ruby scripts thanks to a great contribution, that was possible because of the revised internal structure and build process)
