[request] Sikuli.org needs a forum

Asked by SkaiCloud

Sikuli.org needs a forum. Raiman is propbably only 1 superman but he can't be superman 24/7. Those that practice sikuli in a daily basis may have aquire a lot of knowledge about the IDE and like to share it with new comers and questioners alike. It will cut the load of the dev team so they can focus their effort on building a solid IDE while leaving the question and answer area to the forum community.

This answer board is actually like a forum. Is there anything a forum have but this place doesn't?

Catagory Channel, like Script Tips, or How-To, the answer board works well if you know exactly what you are searching for, but in a forum enviornment I might find what I was looking for base on catagory.

i think it's just the way this forum feels. this forum feels like it is for "real" developers and where people should post if they feel like they have found a bug. a forum is more of a discussion place for people like me who are learning to program and/or learning to write automation.

i think it's more of an atmosphere thing. a forum is a place for people like me to get nerd-happy about the next release :)

can you add a general chat section?

btw: thanks for Sikuli it's and amazing project and the Vim Visual cheat sheet (i got it hanging in my office...lol).

@ SkaiCloud: thanks for the "Superman", but everyone can be a "Superman": you only have to visit this place on a regular base and be interested in the stuff and helping other people.

I agree in the sense, that some platform is needed, to exchange information/experience and problems.
But with regard to Sikuli, I agree with Sean.
I'm with Sikuli now for about one year and my experience is, that there are only a few people, that are willing to contribute. This may change in the future when Sikuli gets known and used more than now.

I think this launchpad environment is sufficient for now. There should be a few more rules and standards and a few people who are willing to turn some experiences into FAQ's or even document something in the wiki or the blog.

The tools are there, just let us first reach their limits before putting effort in new tools. I'm ready and willing to join in.

i guess this place is fine for now. But in the future i bet this place is going to need a separate place for all the discussion.

WARNING: An now for my general chat section where i just rant and spam and talk about this stuff...
Not much importance below here....

hmmm.... ideas for a sticky (that someone else with more knowledge than me could writeup):

How to ask a better question and get better help?
*state OS
*state Sikuli version
*you should update JVM and try again before asking question
*state what you want to achieve
*state the part you are stuck at
*show pseudo code at leats

If you are new to programming or python.
*refer to Python.org/Jython.org (there are differences in the two but python.org explains things better for the basics)
*refer to TheNewBoston for python basics -> http://www.thenewboston.com/?cat=40&pOpen=tutorial
*refer to Osmosis for other python basics -> http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BA25DB20BE1FCD57

Some Know Tips/Work A Rounds:
*Turn "Num Lock" off when using shift modifier (at least for Windows)
*sleep() is depreciated use wait()
*Observe() work arounds, methods and tactics (at least for Windows)

Ok I guess you guys are right, I'll help spread the word out as much as I can. I do visit here on an occasional basis to look at what people ask because I do have question too but dosnt know how to put it in a sense for an advance user to understand. From reading 100+ question or so on here I see majority of it use sikuli for medium to large scale buisness but the online game are rarely touch on.

I'm an online gamer and I use sikuli to do amazing things with it. I might just open a section on my blog dedicated for "Sikuli and Online Gaming" I use autoit for a long time and sikuli thus far outperform autoit in my opinion. It will be good for Sikuli and the "Advance" Gaming Community.

I too am new to sikuli but not new to programings and scripting so when I read other people's question it might light a bulb in head thinking I too want to ask that question bug unable to put it in words. In the future though I hope to see some kind of forum. I'm closing this thread as "Problem Solved" so it can be filter out for real questions.

@eliteSKL
those are pretty good info bro hopefully search feature will pull it up if others are looking for good tutorials.

i do a lot of business automation. which is easier to automate then it is to automate games. another note people don't talk about automating games because it's a taboo subject.

Am I interpreting this correctly from this thread: you can post non-questions under the Answer section?

If so, that's nice and fine by me, though it is a bit vague and most folks will think it's only for posting questions and viewing answers to such.

can't you see that the lack of forum hinders sikuli's progress?
