Affiliate links on Shutter-Project.org to take up a collection

Asked by Charybdis

Hello,

sorry this idea is not related to the software program, it is related to the website of Shutter.

I have a suggestion on how to get more donation. This is a simple idea, and any open source project could do it.

Place related affiliate links on shutter-project.org, and encourage the users to buy stuff through the links, so that the Shutter project earns money. Which affiliate programs are related to Shutter?

Tech bloggers need screenshots, so they use Shutter, therefore you could join to affiliate programs of hosting companies. They pay $50-$125 commission per signup.

This is the best way to collect donations. It's elegant, unobtrusive, and effective. Just need to brainstorm related affiliate programs.

Mh, personally I don't like advertising / affiliate links. Do you have experience with placing such links and how many visitors really use them (a simple click is not enough - they have to sign up after following the link)?

It depends on the number of visitors and their interests. How many unique visitors do you have daily?

I am not talking about advertising, I would just create a page where I would list related affiliate programs, simply just links and/or banners. So I wouldn't place ads all over the place on the website, just on a single page. So it is absolutely not annoying. I would just ask people to use the affiliate links to buy stuff, so they support the project.

IMO affiliate links are even better than asking for donations, because people don't have to pay extra money to support the project, they would buy the desired stuff anyway.

For example, I recently bought a one-year hosting plan, but I realized that a local Wordpress community website had affiliate link for this hosting company, so I used their link to sign up. They earned about $70. It is much harder to persuade someone to donate $70, but it is very easy to ask people, if they would buy something anyway, to use the provided link.

The project misses money if don't use this method. Little commissions add up over the months and years, they are better than nothing.

Ok, sounds not too bad. I think we should try that.
Vadim, what do you think? Any experiences with such affiliate links?

Thanks for your idea, Charybdis.

No experience, but after reading his explanation it looks like a fine try.
Not sure what page to use offhand though.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding the Shutter website. While incorporating affiliate links and joining affiliate programs can be a potential strategy to generate additional revenue, it's important to consider the specific policies and guidelines of the Shutter project and its website. It would be best to consult with the Shutter project team to explore the feasibility and compatibility of affiliate programs that align with the project's goals and values. here you can read more on this topic https://sawstrend.com/

Can you help with this problem?
