shutter does not behave as it should in KDE

Asked by docesam

i want shutter to reside in the system tray and silently take screen shots ,but can not do that ,here is what i did:

after installing shutter and setting it up so that all screenshots go to a spesific folder in my home directory i realized that keybinding does not work in KDE,so after searching forums i added an input action (Alt+z) in kde system settings like this:

shutter --min_at_startup --–disable_systray

After that i fired up shutter and started pressing alt+z ,two things happen:

1- shutter instances appear in the taskbar and disappear after sometime
2-my screen shots is lost ! ,nothing in the screenshot directory

i tried to do screenshots manually (by using shutter UI and it works and screenshots go to the screenshot directory

any help how can i setuo shutter to reside in system tray and silently get screenshots to my screenshot directory?

thankx !!

You don't need to search in forums. There is a guide at our homepage
(KDE and GNOME):
http://shutter-project.org/faq-help/set-shutter-as-the-default-screenshot-tool/

In your command there is no “Capture” parameter set (--full, --window, --section etc.).
In this case it is expected behavior that Shutter starts more than one time.

It should look like this (fullscreen screenshot in this example):
shutter --min_at_startup --disable_systray --full

You can have a look at the man page to see what parameters Shutter
supports.

Does this solve your problem?

thank you, actually forums lead me to the url :)

anyway i did what you said and it is "working" but not silently , whenever i press alt+z to capture a screenshot two things happen:
1- my taskbar get new windows (that you can not maximize or view) for a while then it disappear.
2- the shutter windows pop-up (un-nesseseraly) disturping my work :).

i can't find any options to disable those two things.

any help ?

thank you

Ah, now I get your point. I'll shortly describe what Shutter does when hitting the configured hotkey:

1) Shutter starts a new instance and checks if there is already another instance of Shutter running
1a) If there is another instance running the newly created instance submits a signal to the old instance and terminates
1b) If there is no other instance running the newly created instance takes the desired screenshot

=> This might be the new window in your taskbar you have mentioned. I am wondering why it appears in your taskbar, because it should normally not be visible (I'll have a look at this)

2) The Shutter window gets visible after every screenshot

=> This is expected behavior in the current stable version but will be fixed in the next version (there will be a setting in the preferences dialog):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350660
