Keybinding in KDE/Kubuntu

Asked by Bogdan Bivolaru

I'm trying to use Shutter in Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with KDE 4.3 RC3. However I can't find any way to change the keybinding from launching ksnapshot to using shutter, can someone give me a hint?

Launching it manually and using the buttons/menus to make screenshot defeats the purpose of using it. It's just like the old way of taking snapshots: PrintScreen and then open an image editor and paste in the image.

It would be best to ask in the KDE forums or their IRC channel on how to
change the DE keybinding. We don't really use it to be able to tell you.

I was curios myself and I've found a way to do it. Please have a look at this instruction:

In the example shutter is bound to F11 key for KDE, but it also works for assigning it to PrintScreen. Unfortunately on my laptop Alt + (Fn + Insert (PrintScreen)) tells me that Qt does not recognize the character entered and the binding is invalid, so I've assigned it to Shift + PrintScreen.

Works great, thanks! Sorry for not RTFM.

When re-mapping the key for kde, it launches in a new instance each time I press the shortcut key.
So if I was to take say 5 screen-shots with the assigned key, I would then have 5 instances of shutter running.

We keep a eye out if ever I see a solution to this issue in kde.

What command did you bind? simply "/usr/bin/shutter"? Or are you using
any optional parameter like "--min_at_startup"?#

@mario

Only the shutter exec: "/usr/bin/shutter"

Hm, I'll check that.

@habtool

Please check the guide again:
http://shutter-project.org/faq-help/set-shutter-as-the-default-screenshot-tool/

You have to use some of the parameters like --full, --window etc. when creating a keybinding. I've successfully tested this with the latest version of Shutter.
