Can't install on Kubuntu Hardy

Asked by Jon Seidel

Tried to install on Kubuntu Hardy and failed miserably. First I was unable to get the sources installed properly. I picked the Hardy version, pasted them into the Adept Installer (3rd party packages); but when it went to update the sources, it complains saying: "Could not commit changes - Adept Batch" and "Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages."

So I tried downloading and installing the various packages myself; worked my way through the Perl 5.10... stuff, and finally got stuck on libgtkimageview. I was able to install parts of it successfully using apt-get, but when I then tried to install libgtkimageview-perl which it says is required, it complains that libgtkimageview0 is not available, even though I successfully installed that earlier.

I also had problems getting libpango to install...

and I kept getting messages at various points that a package installation was looking for a certain version which was later than the one it said it was going to install.

All in all, a round-n-round situation getting nowhere.

Any suggestions?

Thanks much...jon

Hrm. It looks like Adept is awfully buggy? "Could not commit changes - Adept Batch" means to me that it didn't update /etc/apt/sources.list as it should have.

Can you try manually adding the deb lines into that file, saving it, then doing "sudo apt-get update", and "sudo apt-get install shutter"?

Thanks... that fixed it, Vadim...

And actually, the deb lines were already in sources.list, so I just ran the update & install and now Shutter's there.

Thanks for the help and for a great package!
