Could you provide tarballs with a standard naming?

Asked by Sebastián Magrí

The current way of naming the tarballs distributed in http://shutter-project.org/wp-content/uploads/releases/tars/ is kind of weird, and makes difficult to properly identify a tarball with a specific release. It makes things difficult for packagers and maintainers on other distributions or in source based package managers like portage.

Providing a tarball named properly per version would make packagers life easier and the package would be supported by more distributions.

An example, for version 0.70.1, the fetch URL should be:

http://shutter-project.org/wp-content/uploads/releases/tars/shutter-0.70.1.tar.gz

yeah sorry I didn't reply, this is fine to strip off the ~ppa thing.
Sometimes people make automated scripts to download the sources and those
would have trouble guessing which ppa version it is.

Could the *.orig.* stuff be stripped too?

In our case in Gentoo, every package is installed through automated scripts which downloads the sources and build them locally. I think in other distros maintainers have also automated scripts which does a similar work.

I've changed the tar files. Could you please check if they fit your needs?

It does, and hopefully will fit the needs of other maintainers!

Thanks for your attention...

Fine.
Please let us know when there is a Gentoo package available so we can put a link to it on the project homepage.
