Feature Suggestion: Highlighting/Marker Pen

Asked by tp42

I would like to suggest to add a highlighting pen/marker pen (like an Edding marker pen for paper) to the Edit Screenshot menu (Ctr-E) menu. I would use it to highlight certain areas or a text portion of a screenshot. In a properties section I could choose the color and the the size (diameter) of the marker pen in pixels.
What do you think about this suggestion?

Best regards,
Thomas

I think that the Pencil tool already does what you need! Give it a try :)

Yes, it is possible to highlight with the Pencil tool and to change the properties of it (Opacity, Color, Diameter, etc). But I would prefer a solution as it is implemented with the Censor tool. Just a one-click action to use the marker pen. This would be more suitable in my point of view for a marker pen. Would that be a possibility?

How would this marker look like? Yellow or green like the editing markers for paper?
Could you please give me an idea by providing some example values (Opacity, Color, Diameter, etc), so i can test it within the drawing tool?

Generally i like this idea...

Thomas,

Are you referring to more of a "bounding box" for highlighting a certain portion of a screenshot and being able to adjust it's diameter, pixel by pixel as well as adjust its color to your liking?

Can you perhaps provide us with an example (simple will do!) of what you mean as a sketch in Gimp, or otherwise? I'm just trying to envision what you want.

If it's not a bounding box, I'm also on the tract that the pencil accomplishes the notion of wanting to point out an object or surround an object to be seen.

Mario & Craig,

sorry for getting that late back on the topic.
I think about an equivalent to a marker pen for highligthing/surrounding certain areas of a screenshot or to quickly underline a text phrase ("Edding marker pen").

I would like to suggest some specifications for the default values of the marker pen:
Opacity 50%,
Colour: #FFFF00 (some sort of yellow),
Diameter: 12 pixels

In a properties section of the marker pen I could choose another colour, size or opacity and save these values.

Best regards,
Thomas

Thanks for your suggestion.

This feature is now implemented and will be part of the 0.80 release of Shutter.

Hi Mario, great app.

I would like to suggest an improvement for the pen tool (and also some others).

It would be nice if it is possible to take a snapshot that is opened afterwards automatically without windowframe, just a small, free toolbar to make markings.

There is a windows tool doing this:

I think with shutter as it is now it shoudn't be a big thing (but I'm not a programmer)
