Taking a screenshot of a given area with delay

I am looking for the way to take a screenshot of a specific area after several seconds delay.
This is because I am unable to take screen shots of areas with pop up windows. Whenever I click on the selection button the pop up window disappears. As an example - take Ubuntu gnome notification bar into consideration.
