Editor - Copy to clipboard on save/close

Asked by Marcin Smialowski

Possibly a feature request, but there's just one thing missing from shutter that would make it absolutely ideal for my particular use case.

I set shutter to automatically copy the screenshot to clipboard as well as automatically save to a folder.

I have two profiles which I trigger with custom keyboard shortcuts. They are identical except one opens an editor and the other does not.

In the case when the screenshot is opened in the editor, it would be fantastic if the save button would also update the clipboard with the edited image. It seems to me that when the user selects both the save to clipboard AND open in editor options in the preferences, the expected behaviour would be that the image in the clipboard is the edited image instead of the original capture.

Obviously, this would only apply for the built-in editor, but in that case, it would even be possible to add a preference that would control the clipboard update behaviour when the user has the built in editor selected.

For more details on my use case, this would be very handy when creating documentation. If I need to add a rectangle, arrow or text for documentation, I use CTRL+Print which launches 'shutter -s -e -p Edit' with that specific profile and if I just need a straight capture, it's just [Print] which launches 'shutter -s -e -p Direct'.

Since the copy functions in the shutter editor seem to copy objects and not images, I'm actually using gnome-paint for my editor in the 'Edit' profile, but I'm forced to add the CTRL+A, CTRL-C, close, save steps to the workflow. In the default profile, no editor is selected.

Having the edited image in the clipboard is preferable even with the extra gnome-paint steps as it is quicker to paste it than it would be to use an insert menu to hunt for the saved image.

Great software by the way. Best screenshot tool on any platform.
