How to capture drop down lists in browser and programs?

I don't know how to capture or take screenshots of a page in a browser with a drop down list open and in programs that have a drop down list expanded. Is there a setting that needs to be adjusted or changed?

You have to use a delay:

1) Configure a delay (e.g. 5 seconds) in Shutter's preferences
2) Take the screenshot (full, window etc.) -> a countdown appears
3) Open the drop-down-list and wait for the countdown to finish
