editor button is faded to grey - cannot find plugin section to enable it

Hello, I just realized that the project's website says "ships with built-in editor".

I thought I was missing a plugin, because the "editor" button is faded to grey. This happened upon installation on two different 64 bit ubuntu lucid installs. Any thoughts on why this might be missing? Let me know if I can provide any more info.
