Feature Request: Execute external commands or Makefile targets

Asked by Amr Hassan on 2011-02-21

Is it possible to implement a feature where a keyboard shortcut would execute an external command or the Makefile in the directory of the current file? Or better yet, open up a list to choose make targets to execute. That would be awesome!

Thanks.

Executing external commands is outside the scope of text editing. Ideally, you'd use your shell terminal and custom scripts to do that. However, you can write a plugin for this feature if you want.

It's inside the scope of text editing if you think of what text editing consists in. Often you edit text files that you run external commands on, e.g. make or pdflatex. Since scribes aims for efficiency it would IMHO make sense to be able to execute external commands via shortcut so that one wouldn't have to switch to a terminal to execute commands that one needs to execute often.
